Recent surveys show that many people quit their jobs because of their bosses
Leaders that are focusing mainly on financial results rather than on the needs of their employees, leaders who are less flexible and who do not provide a safe work environment – this kind of leaders are often the reason why people decide to leave that environment
In my professional path I have collaborated with several organizations. Whenever an organizational environment was not providing a feeling of security, I noticed separation: people said “they” when referring to management, so there was the “they” and the “us”. They felt separated from the organization, they didn’t have a feeling of belonging. They felt threatened and hence experienced high levels of stress and even burnout, because they didn't know where the next threat might come from. Some were even afraid to open their emails…
Simon Sinek published a book called “Leaders Eat Last – Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don't” and in his book he talks about the “circle of security”. In a circle there are no hierarchies and everyone shares their talents and ideas, contributing to a common purpose and shared path
When people feel recognized, seen and respected, they share their talents and their best. Happier Workplaces, Happier Productivity
If you don't feel emotionally safe in your work environment, here's an invitation to reflect: is it time to consider a change? There are coaches and companies that can help you through your transition process
If you're a leader, try to understand what kind of environment you're providing for your teams. Are you nurturing an environment where everyone is allowed to authentically be themselves and contribute their unique insights?
People are the best assets any organization can have. I believe that the organizations of the future are those that put the well-being of their people first. Thus retaining talent, providing a space for innovation, creating trust, welcoming everyone's ideas, aligning values. Result? A win/win situation
With love,
Angela
